Marshalls University College has suffered the biggest shock result in the preliminary stage of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
Last year’s silver medalist lost 14-16 to Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) in this year’s Zone 7 decider; the team has missed progressing to the next stage.
GTUC Guard Bernard Tetteh scored the decisive points from the charity stripe with the game tied at 14 and a few seconds left on the clock.
That sends Marshalls packing from the competition but it could have been entirely different had the team converted numerous free throws.
In fact, both teams were guilty of wasting chances from the free throw line but GTUC did enough to walk away with the win.
The loss is similar to what Marshalls went through in the 2016 edition where the team had the chance to beat University of Ghana (UG) in the zone but fluffed its chances. UG qualified from the zone and went on to win the Championship.
Marshalls placed fourth overall on the national stage after scraping to as the best second runner up team.
Unfortunately, such measures are included in the ongoing competition which means Marshalls are out of the 2018 UPAC Championship.
