Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) placed itself in the UPAC history books after scoring 100 points.
The team beat Garden City University 100-4 to clinch top spot in Zone 5 of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and qualify to the national championship slated for next month.
While the team’s decimation of Garden City team sent shockwaves through Ghana’s tertiary field, others were not so amused by the turn of events.
Decimating the overwhelmed Garden City side irked some quarters who believe KNUST did not show good sportsmanship in the game.
The massive score enabled KNUST end the zonal competition with an unbeaten run after beating Zone 5 Host Kumasi Technical University 39-13.
After waning in recent years, perhaps scoring 100 was a way to show KNUST’s readiness to compete in the upcoming knockout games.
KNUST placed second in the 2015 Championship and placed third the following year before failing to make the semis in 2017.
This year’s knockout phase takes place from April 12-14.
