Sunyani Technical University (STU) earlier today booked its place in the national competition of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and College (UPAC) Basketball Championship becoming the fifth team to do so.
STU beat arch rival University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 23-8 in Zone 4’s deciding game to book a spot in the elite stage.
The team is set to feature in the latter stages for the first time since UPAC’s maiden edition in 2011 and after falling several times to UENR, STU has ended the latter’s run.
STU joins fellow qualified teams All Nations University College, University of Education-Winneba, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Takoradi Technical University in the quarterfinals.
The next round is set to take place from April 12-14 in Accra which will be the focus of the final leg of qualifiers as games in Zones 6, 7 and 8 respectively will be played in the region.
Two time winners Accra Technical University host Valley View University, Wisconsin University College and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration on Thursday March 22.
Zone 7 and 8 will be held on March 24 and March 29.
