Sunyani Technical University (STU) has opened competition in Zone 4 of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship with a resounding win.
The host team beat Kintampo College of Health 50-14 in the first game of this year’s zonal competition and Kintampo’s first in the UPAC Championship.
This is Kintampo’s debut game in Ghana’s most celebrated tertiary basketball competition; the team stepped in as a replacement.
However, it was far from a dream debut for Kintampo as the side did not lead at any point in the contest and ended up losing heavily.
The 36 point loss put Kintampo’s qualification to the next stage of the Championship in jeopardy and need to win its next game to stand a chance of qualifying.
On the other hand, the big win gives STU an excellent start to the competition it is hosting for the first time with a host of dignitaries including Pro Vice Chancellor Solomon Korankye in attendance.
It also represents STU Coach Andrew Quansah’s first win in UPAC after switching from rival Universityu of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
