University of Education-Winneba (UEW) is preparing to play in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship for the first time since 2011.

The team recently qualified to the national competition after topping Zone 3 courtesy wins over Regent University College of Science and Technology, Cape-Coast Technical University and KAAF University College.

UEW played in the maiden edition of UPAC in 2011 and placed second behind Accra Technical University but has not recorded such success since.

After making it to the quarters, the team’s agenda is to go deep in the competition with Guard Samuel Blankson opining:

“This is our year. Its hard work so we are going to make it to the top…To head to the top that’s all” he said in an interview with Basketballghana.com

Zonal qualifiers are set to conclude in a few weeks with games in Zones 4 and 5 in Sunyani and Kumasi respectively set to take place this weekend.

UEW, All Nations University College and Takoradi Technical University have qualified to the quarterfinals.
