Kintampo College of Health will feature in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship for the first time.
The team was originally not drafted to compete in the zonal competition but will do so as a replacement for Valley View University’s satellite campus in Ghana’s Brong-Ahafo Region.
Kintampo will compete in Zone 4 alongside host Sunyani Technical University, University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Catholic University College, Ghana.
With the team a novice in the zone and facing a herculean task to make it to the national competition, Kintampo can look to emulate Regent University College of Science and Technology’s near success in Zone 3.
Regent stepped in to replace University of Cape-Coast in the zone and won two straight games before falling 35-52 to University of Education-Winneba (UEW).
A win over UEW would have sealed Regent’s place in the quarterfinals. Sunyani Technical will host Zone 4 games on Friday March 16 and it could be the day Kintampo Health College shocks the UPAC field by topping the zone.
