The Tema Basketball League preseason trophy count has been split between Nungua Coldstore and Ashaiman Lions.
Lions won the Campaign Tournament played in December last year but has missed out on the Battle Grounds Tournament Trophy.
Ashaiman lost 33-46 to arch rival Nungua Coldstore in the competition’s final game with home side and defending league champions Tema Community 4 placing third.
Both teams rode to the semifinals with unbeaten streaks from the preliminary stage and extended them by clinching 45-25 and 33-27 wins over Community 4 and Teshie Rangers respectively.
Coldstore got off to an excellent start in the final game taking a 34-10 first half lead to set the tone for the winning effort.
Lions directly fed Nungua’s big lead by committing several turnovers in the early minutes of the crunch game which is a rematch of the 2016 league encounter which Nungua won.
With the 2018 League season to commence reportedly on April 1, both teams will have another go at each other soon.
