Regent University College of Science and Technology is set to compete in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship for the first time.

The privately owned tertiary institution has not played in the competition since it started in 2011; this year’s edition is the fifth.

Regent has stepped in as a late replacement for University of Cape-Coast (UCC) who withdrew from the competition late.

UCC was scheduled to feature in the tournament’s preliminary stage in Zone 3 in Winneba but announced its withdrawal for reasons unknown to Baskteballghana.com

The team has been present in all four previous competitions but its decision means the Cape-Coast based institution’s dream run ends.

Regent University joins KAAF University College, Cape-Coast Technical University and Zone 3 Host University of Education-Winneba.

A spot in the quarterfinals in Accra in April is up for grabs; only the zone’s winner will make it to the next round.

All Nations University College and Takoradi Technical University have booked spots in the latter tound.
