University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) Male Basketball Team has conceded massively in the opening game of the 2018 UPAC Basketball Championship Zone 2.
UMAT lost 19-69 to Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the opening game of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) tournament.
This is the second time in as many months the team has lost by a wide margin following the team’s exploits in January’s Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games.
UMAT lost to UPAC defending champions University of Ghana (UG) 12-60 at the GUSA Games in what turned out to be a disappointing campaign for the Tarkwa-based institution.
The latest loss puts UMAT in a tough position to make it to the UPAC National games in Ghana’s capital, Accra next month.
GIMPA-Takoradi and GTUC-Takoradi forfeited the competition at the last turn meaning only TTU and UMAT are in contention for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Only zonal winners make it to the next round of the five year tournament.
