Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has made a big statement in the opening game of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Zone 2.
TTU beat University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) 69-19 to take a commanding lead in the zonal standings.
The newly created zone which has tertiary institutions in Ghana’s Western Region competing in the tournament is in its fifth year.
The experienced Takoradi University side blitzed their opponent’s from Tarkwa right from tip off to take a 40-14 lead to the second half.
Parading a top group with Point Guard Benjamin Sagoe leading the charge, the host institution had little trouble dispatching UMAT.
UMAT had its moments to close the gap early in the second half but missed open looks at the rim and shots from deep.
TTU has made a giant step towards securing qualification to the national competition to be staged in Accra in mid April.
Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA-Takoradi) and Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Takoradi) forfeited the competition at late notice.
