Ahmed

Small Forward Bashir Ahmed scored 10 points for St. John’s University in the Red Storm’s 88-77 win over Georgetown University.

The game played at Madison Square Garden was for a place in the next round of the Big East Tournament with either needing a win to inch closer to securing a spot in America’s College basketball postseason.

Raised in New York by Ghanaian parents, 22 year old Bashir Ahmed added six rebound and three assists in St. John’s wins.

The 6 foot 7 inch Forward is in his final year with the Red Storm and is averaging 11.4 points and 4.72 rebounds this season.

Members of the starting unit including Ahmed scored in double digits with second year Guard Shamorie Ponds leading the way.

Ponds registered 26 points, two rebounds and three assists followed by Marvin Clark Jnr. and Justin Simon with 16 points apiece.

Georgetown Center Jessie Govan scored a game high 28 points to lead the Hoyas but efforts amounted to nothing for Coach and NBA Hall of Fame inductee Patrick Ewing.

St. John’s need to win the Big East Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.
