The University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) is set to compete in Zone 2 of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship on Friday March 9 in Takoradi.
Zonal games will be played at the Takoradi Technical University; UMAT and host institution has been drawn with Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA-Takoradi) and Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Takoradi).
Playing in Friday’s fixtures will be the Tarkwa-based institution’s Male Basketball Team’s second appearance at a major competition this year.
UMAT participated in this year’s Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games in January at the University of Development Studies in Tamale.
UMAT crashed out of the basketball event in the multi sport competition early missing out on a medal in the process.
University of Ghana (UG) beat UMAT 60-12 in the opening game in January en route to another title winning campaign.
UMAT must top 2016 UPAC fourth placed side Takoradi Technical to secure the zone’s sole spot at the next stage of the Championship.
