The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Male Basketball Team has lost its first game of the 2017-2018 Global Sporting Platform (GSP) League.
LIR Royals inflicted a 23-18 loss on UNER who headed into the game played over the weekend as defending champions and league leaders.
This comes as a big blow to the team’s preparations ahead of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The 2018 edition of the UPAC Championship officially tips off on March 3 in the Eastern Region Zone but games in the Brong Ahafo Region Zone takes place on Friday March 16.
UNER has won the past two regional editions and placed fourth at the national games in 2017 but came unstuck against Royals.
The tertiary side was led by Point Guard Robert Fiifi Brew who scored 11 points in his team’s first loss in six games this season.
The team is aiming to get on the podium in the upcoming UPAC and successfully defending the league title which is yet to be achieved in GSP’s history.
