Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) is set to play in this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The 2018 edition of the renowned competition commences next month with over 30 tertiary institutions in line to play.
University of Ghana (UG) are defending champions after winning the tournament in 2016 and 2017; UG beat GTUC at the preliminary stage in the 2017 competition.
Despite being one of the consistent teams in the tournament, GTUC is yet to progress beyond the preliminary stage which is largely based on regional games.
Basketbllghana.com touched base at the team’s training at the Tesano Baptist Church Court ahead of this year’s anticipated start date.
The school has lost key figures including Point Guard Kinglsley Quist but have a solid foundation in returning members Simon Aphour, Captain Isaac Twum and Center Emmanuel Ocquaye.
Coach James Ocloo took the team through several drills ranging from free throw shooting to cardio workouts; the latter is key since games will be played in high temperatures in the final months of Ghana’s dry season.
