Preparations are far advanced for the start of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship and Accra Basketball League (ABL) respectively.
The 2018 Sprite Ball Championship was concluded in early January with the latest competition sure to go down as one of the best in the tournament’s history.
However, the man who pieced the aforementioned competitions and many others together, has been absent for a year.
Today marks exactly a year after Matthias Ocloo passed away following a long term battle with illness which forced him to withdraw from the public eye.
His legendary status continues to be highly recognized a year on after his demise in the aftermath of a life built on developing basketball in Ghana.
Ocloo was technical director for the Sprite Ball and UPAC Championships since the competition’s inception in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
He was a founding member of the ABL which is Ghana’s elite club competition and served as Manager of Ghana’s Male National Basketball Team and Coach of the National Female side.
