A week from today, the first round of qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA World Cup will be in full swing as games in Groups A and D take center stage respectively.

The qualifiers will determine teams that make it to next round of qualifiers ahead of the world event in China next year.

Group B games will be held in Bamako where host nation Mali takes on Nigeria and Eastern Africa countries Uganda and Rwanda.

Group D games will be held in Maputo where host nation Mozambique takes on Ivory Coast, Senegal and Central African Republic.

The top three teams will make it to next round where teams will be drawn in a different set of groups to mark the final phase of qualifiers.

For the first time in the history of World Cup qualification, five teams will represent Africa in China in the expanded format of the tournament.

After finishing second and fourth at the last African Championship, Nigeria and Senegal are favorites to top Groups B and D.
