Senegal Point Guard Oumol Thiam has opined her team has a tough challenge ahead of this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup.
The World competition takes place from September 22-30 in Tenerife, Spain with 16 countries set to compete for the top prize.
Following Monday’s draw, Senegal has been placed in Group B alongside defending champions USA, China and EuroBasket representative Latvia.
The West African nation is set to face China and USA for the second straight time in international competition after squaring off in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Senegal lost to both teams and missed out on progressing from the group; Thiam played in the Olympics and knows how tough it will be to overturn the outcome from the past meeting.
“The USA is the best team in the world. They are tough teams to compete against. I don’t know much about Latvia because we haven’t faced them yet, but I am looking forward to the challenge” she said in an interview with FIBA.com
Senegal and African Champions Nigeria are representing Africa at the World Cup.
