African representative at this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup, Senegal, will be facing familiar foes after getting drawn against USA and China ahead of the competition.

The Lionesses were drawn alongside defending champion USA, Asian powerhouse China and Latvia in Group B this week.

The World Cup takes place from September 22-30 in Spain with 16 teams competing for the top prize in international women’s basketball.

Senegal played USA and China at the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil losing to both teams in the competition.

The 11 time African champions have a tough challenge ahead since all three opponents are ranked in the top 10.

Despite dominating on the continent, the West African nation is yet to translate such dominance to international competitions.

No African team has qualified beyond the group stage at the World Games last held in Turkey which USA clinch gold ahead of Spain and Australia.

Senegal placed second at the 2017 FIBA Africa Championship after falling 48-65 to Nigeria.
