Reigning African Female Basketball Champions Nigeria faces an uphill task at the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup to be played in Spain.

Nigeria has been placed in Group B alongside Turkey, Argentina and Australia following the draw held on Tuesday February 6.

This year’s competition will be held in Spain with 16 teams competing for the world title; United States of America is the defending champion. The competition takes place from September 22-30.

Nigeria is riding high following its impressive display at the last AfroBasket topping record winners Senegal to win gold.

However, the team has been handed a tough draw following Tuesday’s event in Tenerife with the West Africans set to play against top performers at the 2014 edition.

Australia beat Turkey to clinch bronze that year and Argentina qualified ahead of Canada and Puerto Rico from the America’s competition.

The top two teams make it to the knockout stage of the tournament and each member of the quartet has a strong case to qualify from the group.

Senegal is in Group D alongside USA, Latvia and China.
