In the aftermath of four successfully held editions of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship there is little to choose between Accra Technical University (ATU) and University of Ghana (UG).
The behemoths have dominated Ghana’s premier tertiary institution basketball competition since its inception in 2011.
Both teams have won the tournament on two occasions with ATU claiming the first pair in 2011 and 2015 and UG winning in 2016 and 2017.
With either on the two trophy mark, this year’s competition-the fifth in the championship’s history- will break the tie between the institutions.
Aside attempting to become UPAC record winners with a third title, UG is aiming to become the first team to win three straight titles.
The team is yet to lose a game since 2016 and recently completed a double gold medal swoop at the GUSA Games held last month.
This year’s competition has a reported start date in the latter parts of February and is set to have institutions like former silver medalists Marshalls University College and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology compete.
