2018 UPAC to be played in fallen heroes first year anniversary

Per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com, the start date for this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship has been set for the latter part of February.

This will be the fifth edition of the tertiary basketball competition which commenced in 2011 and had Accra Technical University win the maiden edition.

However, the upcoming event will coincide with the first year anniversaries of fallen Ghanaian basketball heroes Benjamin Baafi and Matthias Ocloo.

Both legendary figures passed away last year prior to the 2017 edition of UPAC; Ocloo passed away in February and Baafi did same a few weeks later.

The pair played crucial roles in basketball’s development in the West African country following years of selfless dedicated service.

University of Ghana (UG) won the 2017 edition completing back to back wins after clinching gold in 2016 ahead of Accra Technical University.

UG beat Marshalls University College 41-23 to win 2017’s UPAC title in dominant fashion as Accra Technical fell to third place.
