Exactly a week ago, the 2018 Sprite Ball Championship tipped off with a game involving Mfantsipim School and Presbyterian Senior High School (Osu-PRESEC).
The game tipped off this year’s competition at the El Wak Stadium in Accra marking the first of three days of competition in Ghana’s biggest high school tournament.
This year’s competition is the 12th edition in the 11 year competition which began in 2007 and has had schools like St. Augustine’s College, Armed Forces Senior High Technical School and Opoku Ware School winning.
The opening tie ended in a 45-14 win for PRESEC over the four time winners of the competition in a surprising result which would define the tournament.
The opening day of this year’s edition also had shock results with Sacred Heart Technical Institute recording a 38-27 win over the defending champions Opoku Ware School.
PRESEC eventually won the competition beating Mfantsipim in a repeat of the opening game; female champions Kumasi Girls High School also won its opening tie by clinching a 26-15 win over former winner St. Mary’s Senior High School.
