The 2018 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games has commenced with the games starting after a successful opening ceremony.
The biannual multi sport discipline is taking place at the University of Development Studies Tamale Campus and expected to end later this month.
However, Ghana’s premier tertiary institution, University of Ghana (UG), recorded mixed results in the opening day of the basketball competition.
UG’s male side extended its dominance with another beat down of an opponent; University of Mines and Technology got pummeled 12-60 by the defending champions.
Despite extensive changes the team has undergone since clinching the 2016 title, UG begin its latest title defense in sensational style.
UG play University of Professional Studies (UPSA) later today in a rematch of the 2016 final game. UPSA lost 61-73 to University of Education-Winneba in its opening tie in the competition.
The female team on the other hand continues to fall short of matching their male colleagues falling 31-43 to University of Cape-Coast.
University of Education-Winneba lost 24-26 to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in the other female game played on the day.
