Aside lifting the most number of trophies in the male division of the Sprite Ball Championship, Mfantsipim School title defense feat is yet to be matched.
The team won three straight Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively in a dominant era for the Cape-Coast based school.
The side has been less fortunate in recent editions losing three consecutive finals with the latest being a 22-25 loss to Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (Osu PRESEC).
Since Mfantsipim’s three peat, no team in the division has successfully defended its title; Opoku Ware School-winners in the last edition- attempted in this year’s edition but failed.
The Kumasi based side who beat Mfantsipim 27-25 to lift the trophy in the last edition, exited this year’s competition at the group stage.
Former winners including St. Augustine’s College, Keta Senior High Technical School and Armed Forces Senior High Technical School have missed out on a successful title defense.
T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School and sacred Heart Technical Institute’s female basketball teams successfully defended their titles.
