Pope John (yellow and blue) beat Sacred Heart 21-12

Despite making it to three straight semifinals at the Sprite Ball Championship, Pope John Senior High School and Junior Seminary has failed to progress beyond the stage.

The Eastern Region representative placed third at the just ended edition of the prestigious competition after beating Sacred Heart 21-12 to clinch bronze.

This is the team’s second bronze medal in the past three editions after placing fourth in the last edition held in December 2016.

After topping Group C with three straight wins ahead of former winners St. Augustine’s College, the team piped Adisadel College 23-22 to make the final four.

Point Guard Sanisa Merdi saved his team from elimination at the quarter final stage by burying a tough running layup in the final seconds of the game.

However, he failed to produce the same magic as Osu Presbyterian Senior High School run out with a 16-12 win in the semifinal tie.

The James Okine led side placed third in the January 2016 edition of the competition with a win over Opoku Ware School.
