Sacred Heart beat Augustine’s (white) in overtime.

Pope John Senior High and Junior Seminary Point Guard Sanisa Merdi delivered when it mattered most to guide his side to the semifinals of the 2018 Sprite Ball Championship male division.

The floor general and one of the standout performers in this year’s edition scored a running layup in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to clinch a 23-22 win over Adisadel College.

Despite having a frustrating game where he missed several chances from the charity stripe, Merdi made the final shot with time running out.

Adisael will feel hard done after leading the game heading into the final minutes and miss out on a semifinal appearance.

In the final quarterfinal game of the day, Sacred Heart Technical Institute piped St. Augustine’s College 32-30 to make the final four of the competition.

A late shot from Michael Atokpley tied the game at 30 sending the tie to overtime the 2016 winners failed to capitalize on driving lanes as the Accra sealed the win with two buried free throws.
