Mfantsipim (red) lost the crunch tie to Keta

Record winners of the Sprite Ball Championship, Mfantsipim School has been knocked out at the group stage of this year’s edition.

Mfantsipim exited the competition following a 13-16 loss to rival Keta Senior High Technical School in either team’s final game in Group A.

The four time winners of Ghana’s most celebrated high school basketball trailed Keta in the opening minutes of the game but tied the game at 13 with a long three point shot.

However, Keta converted three straight free throws to clinch the win and make the quarterfinals behind Osu Presbyterian Senior High School.

The loss marks a disappointing campaign for Mfantsipim who have been a constant presence in the latter stages of the competition.

Mfantsipim has featured in the last two finals of the Championship losing games to St. Augustine’s College and Opoku Ware School respectively.

In the girls division, high flying Ahantaman Girls have been brought down to earth after falling 15-23 to Wesley Girls High School.
