Following low key performances over the last couple of years, Basketballghana.com has learnt University of Ghana (UG) Female Basketball Team is under pressure.
The team is due to compete at the upcoming Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games early next year at the University of Development Studies in Tamale.
However, the team has very little room for slip ups due to underwhelming performances in competitions since 2016.
Unlike their male counterparts who have enjoyed stellar achievement during the same period, UG’s female side got disqualified at the 2016 GUSA Games on technical grounds.
The team also ended this year’s Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division ranked bottom of the standings after withdrawing from last year’s roster.
UG’s Male Team won the 2016 GUSA by beating University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in the final game and has clinched back to back Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championships.
The men’s team is yet to beaten since 2016 and translated its rich form on the Ghanaian scene to the continent by clinching gold at the 2016 Africa University Games.
