The 2018 Sprite Ball Championship will be celebrated without one of its profound high profile followers following the demise of Former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Nii Nortey Dua.
The former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in Ghana’s capital, Accra following a long battle with illness.
Nortey Dua served as Ghana’s Deputy Sports Minister for an extensive period under Ex President John Atta-Mills during the latter politician’s time as leader of the West African nation from 2009 to mid 2012.
During his time as Deputy Minister, Dua was vocal in his support for sports disciplines aside football in Ghana; a trait which is hard to find in the soccer loving country.
The astute politician graced the 2013 Sprite Ball Championship where he witnessed some of the nation’s bright basketball talents show off their skills.
Unfortunately, his untimely death means he will not be present for the upcoming of the national games which runs from January 4-6, 2018 at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.
