Rifles will compete in the preseason event dubbed the “Campaign Tournament” following the withdrawal of defending champions Nungua Coldstore.
The competition takes place from December 9 to December 24 at Tema’s Community 4 Court with eight teams due to compete for the title.
Coldstore won the maiden edition after clinching the 2016 League Championship but will not defend its title as a result of what Coach Ken Caesar has termed “house cleaning”.
Rifles will take up Nungua’s spot in Group B which has Ashaiman Lions, Tema Heat and Tema Community 2 featuring.
Akatsi’s first game will be against Lions on December 10 before taking on Tema Heat and Community 2 on December 16 and 17 respectively.
Rifles inclusion reunites the team with fellow group contenders in the just ended league regular season which the Akatsi missed out on progression to the postseason.
The team received a special award for its commitment to the league following the conclusion of the league won by Community 4.
