Qualifying basketball games in the Western Region will be honored today in Takoradi with several schools competing for spots at the Sprite Ball Championship.

Sprite Ball is Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition and the next edition takes place in the nation’s capital, Accra from January 4-6, 2018.

St. John’s School, Sekondi and Ahantaman Girls Senior High School headline the male and female divisions respectively in the qualifiers.

Both teams featured at the last national championship in December 2016 which had Opoku Ware School and Wesley Girls High School emerge winners.

St. John’s placed third in the boys competition after a remarkable run in the division to record its best mark in the tournament.

Ahantaman on the other hand, missed out on qualifying to the semifinals in the female division despite impressing in the competition.

Arch rival Shama Senior High School is likely to offer the stiffest challenge to Ahantaman’s quest to clinch consecutive appearances at the national level.

The Western leg of qualifiers precedes the final leg of qualifiers to next year’s main event.
