Reports gathered by Basketballghana.com indicate several physical altercations ensued between supporters of Pope John Senior High School and Koforidua Senior High Technical School (KSTS).

The incident took place during the final game of this year’s Eastern Regional Basketball qualifiers played at Pope Johns Court to determine which the region’s representatives for the national championship-Sprite Ball.

Despite confirming their ranks as the region’s representatives by qualifying to the finals, supporters of KSTS and Pope John clashed several times on the sidelines during and after the game.

According to several eye witnesses some plastic chairs were broken and taken away from the venue by students of both schools after the melee.

The unfortunate incident is the latest in a long line of clashes between the arch rivals who have a deep rooted history.

A similar situation took place at the Ashanti Regional qualifiers between reigning national champions Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College.

Pope John won the regional championship by piping KSTS 31-30 giving Coach James Okine another regional title ahead of the national games.

The Sprite Ball Championship takes place at the El Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra from January 4-6, 2018.
