Pope John Senior High School and Junior Seminary has won the 2017 Eastern Region basketball qualifiers ahead of arch rival Koforidua Senior High Technical School (KSTS).

KSTS lost 30-31 in a thrilling encounter as both teams battled for the number one spot in the region after securing spots in upcoming edition of the Sprite Ball Championship.

The next edition of Ghana’s most celebrated high school basketball event tips off in January 2018 at the El Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Pope John rode an unbeaten streak to the final game against “SecTech” and produced the final win in the division to clinch first place.

The team had to fight hard for the win for the second straight game after clinching a 14-13 win over St. Peter’s Senior High School in the semifinals.

Though Pope John failed to convince fans with their performance against St.Peter’s, they produced a better showing to pip KSTS to the regional title.

Pojoss missed out on a medal at the last national games falling behind bronze medalist St. John’s School, Sekondi. Sprite Ball is organized by Rite Sports Limited and headlined by Sprite.
