Barracks Scorpions tipped off the 2017-2018 Global Sporting Platform (GSP) Basketball League with a clash against Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG Saints).
Fittingly Scorpions grabbed the biggest win in the opening round of games on Day One of the new season by beating Saints 46-14.
The game was played at the Eusbett Court in Sunyani following extensive media sessions prior at the venue.
A 10-3 third quarter win for Scorpions proved to be the game changer as Saints stayed close to the game leader’s right from jump ball.
Scorpions edged Catholic University 6-5 in the opening quarter and ended the half with a 13-6 lead before blowing by the tertiary side in the second half.
Saints went scoreless in the fourth quarter as Barracks run off to a 17-0 score to record the emphatic victory.
Title contender Suncity Braves beat LIR 41-39 to start the season on a winning note; the 2015-2016 Champions scraped to a win despite the best efforts from LIR.
Defending Champions University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) clinched a 35-17 win over Desert Rabbits.
