The opening rounds of the Ashanti Regional Qualifiers for Sprite Ball Championship have proceeded with little surprises.

The competition is underway at Opoku Ware School (OWASS) with eight schools in the male category and eight in the female category.

Regional and national champions OWASS have sealed a place in the semifinal with rivals Prempeh College, Kumasi Anglican Senior High School and T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School.

The quartet made the cut at the expense of Toase Senior High School, Armed Forces Senior High School and Islamic Senior High School.

In the girls division, regional champs Kumasi Girls Senior High School is a step away from making a second straight appearance in the final after booking a semifinal spot.

They are joined by St.Louis Senior High, T.I. Ahmadiyya and Islamic Senior High School; Kumasi Girls placed second at the national games falling to Cape-Coast Wesley Girls High School.

The ongoing qualifiers will determine which teams represent the region at the celebrated high school competition.
