Ghana Center Amida Brimah’s recent call up to San Antonio Spurs Training Camp is the perfect gift for Uncle and legendary Ghana Coach Lawal Brimah who celebrates his birthday today.
The younger Brimah was named as a member of the five time NBA Champions 19 man roster heading to camp with this season’s campaign due to tipoff on October 17.
Lawal Brimah has been an ever present character in Ghana’s growing basketball industry by being named Coach of the Year on two occasions at the Ghana Basketball Awards.
He has a lengthy string of success having coached Braves of Customs to several league titles in the West African country’s elite club basketball competition-the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I.
Amida was born and raised in a basketball family with Uncle Hashim Brimah also a prominent basketball player and youth coach; he has been nominated as the Most Valuable Player in the nation on a couple of occasions.
Prior to joining San Antonio, Amida played for University of Connecticut and Chicago Bulls in the 2017 NBA Summer League. He won the 2014 National College Championship in his first year with UCONN.
