Unlike University of Connecticut in recent years, Purdue University has been successful developing big men in the game to make the NBA Draft and that might be the reason behind Emmanuel Dowuona’s decision to pick Purdue University ahead of UCONN.
The Ghanaian Center chose the Boilermakers ahead of the likes of Georgia Tech, Miami, Clemson and Louisville Universities respectively.
However, not picking UCONN is hardly surprising considering the limited responsibilities handed to fellow countryman Amida Brimah during his time with the Huskies.
Despite showing off a smooth shooting stroke in practices and workouts, Coach Kevin Ollie rarely run plays through the big man rather assigning him to duties on the less glamorous end of the court.
During Ollie’s five year tenure as Coach, the recognizable big man UCONN has produced is Detroit Pistons Center Andre Drummond; Guards have thrived in his time with Shabazz Napier a prime example.
On the other hand, Purdue has been successful getting guys like Caleb Swanigan and AJ Hammons playing in the NBA in recent times due to Coach Matt Painter’s system which features big guys heavily on offense.
Dowuona could be the next Purdue big to make the NBA Draft.
