Ghana Forward Ben Bentil’s stint with Champagne Chalons-Reims in the French League Pro A has begun on a bad note with an opening day loss.

The side, based in Northern France, lost 61-86 to Dijon in the opening round of the 2017-2018 season which tipped off at 20:30 GMT.

This is the third straight season Reims has started a new campaign in a losing effort with the latest being a 25 point loss to last season’s 13th ranked team.

Despite having former NBA player Bentil and 2016-2017 Pro B Coach of the Year Carl Heitz on the roster, Charlons failed to live up to what was a promising offseason following the capture of the above mentioned pair.

Reims has the chance to register its maiden win of the season when its plays against Antibes Sharkes on Tuesday September 26 at the team’s Palais Des Sports Pierre de Coubertin home venue.

Bentil is signed to a one year deal and adds to a list of former teams that include Dallas Mavericks and Chinese Basketball Association side Xinjiang Guanhui Flying Tigers.
