Angola National Male Basketball Head Coach Manuel Silva has lamented over his team’s poor form at the just ended African Nations Championship.

The record 11 time continental winners failed to progress beyond the quarterfinals following a 57-66 loss to Senegal; the loss came after Angola lost to Morocco in the preliminary round.

In the aftermath of the team’s exit, Silva was perplexed about his side’s performance in the competition despite having excellent pre-tournament preparations; Angola won a four nation competition in China with the likes of New Zealand competing.

“We worked hard and well, all conditions were created so that we could have a positive performance, but we did not correspond, we failed and we were not the same squad of the preparation” he said per AllAfrica.com

This year’s competition run from September 8 to September 16 and was co-hosted for the first time in the tournament’s history. Tunisia and Senegal shared hosting duties and finished first and third respectively.

Tunisia’s win came at the expense of 2015 champions Nigeria who looked to seal what would have been a memorable back to back title sweep.

After placing fourth two years ago, Senegal’s bronze medal marks improved results for the West African side.
