Tunisia players celebrate win

Nigeria Captain Ike Diogu has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2017 African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) following a stunning display in the competition.

The veteran Power Forward led D’Tigers to place second at the just ended competition sealing Nigeria’s place at the 2019 World Cup to be held in China.

He paced the tournament in scoring with a 22 point average while adding 8.4 rebounds as 2015 Champions missed out on a successful title defense.

Diogu, who was drafted ninth overall in the 2005 NBA Draft, produced one of the competitions best moments when he scored 31 points in the West African side’s 78-77 win over Ivory Coast in the opening game.

He was joined in the All-Tournament Team for this year’s competition by teammate Ikenna Iroegbu, Tunisia duo Mohamed Hadidane and Mourad El Mabrouk and Senegal Center Gorgui Dieng.

The Tunisian contingent played key roles in leading the North African side to its second continental title after winning it in 2011.
For Senegal, placing third is an improvement on the fourth spot the occupied in 2015.
