Wild Card selections to this year’s African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) have been bundled out with the competition moving to the knockout stages.

Rwanda and Guinea secured spots in Senegal and Tunisia for the ongoing competition after impressing in the qualifiers despite not qualifying automatically.

Both teams failed to progress past the preliminary stage after registering losing records in three games played in Tunis.

West African side Guinea lost all three games while Rwanda’s sole win of the competition came via a 75-55 win over Guinea in the opening round on September 8.

Rwanda lost 77-81 to Cameroon and 60-78 to Co Host Tunisia while Guinea dropped 54-96 to Cameroon and 59-64 to Tunisia aside the loss to Rwanda.

Games will not be played as teams based in Dakar, Senegal fly to the North African country to commence the knockout phase.

The quarterfinal list has been completed with several heavy hitters on the continent in the mix for a title shot that guarantees a place in the 2019 World Cup in China.

Morocco plays Egypt in the opening game on Thursday September 14 before Nigeria plays Cameroon, Tunisia plays Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal plays Angola.
