Morocco has delivered the biggest upset thus far in this year’s African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) by beating Angola 60-53.
The low scoring tie had the North African side clinch a huge win over the record winners of the competition; the win gives Morocco its second win two games.
This is Angola’s first loss to Morocco in 37 years representing a new low point for the 11 time African Champions who missed out on a 12 title in 2015 after losing to Nigeria.
Abderrahim Najah paced the game with 18 points and eight rebounds in the Group B matchup Dakar, Senegal. Angola was led by former American College player Roger Moore who registered 13 points in the losing effort.
Both teams will be in action today with Morocco taking on Uganda at 15:30 GMT and Angola taking on Central African Republic at 20:30 GMT.
Central African Republic beat Uganda 57-54. Defending champions Nigeria got back in stride after a narrow 78-77 win over Ivory Coast on Day 1 to blow out Mali courtesy a 90-67 win.
D’Tigers play Democratic Republic of Congo today at 15:30 GMT in Tunisia; Congo beat Ivory Coast 80-61.
