Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation Media Coordinator Sandy Asiedu has expressed deep consternation in hindsight of the just ended wheelchair event at the West African country’s National Sports Festival (NSF).
The competition has wrapped up with Brong-Ahafo Region beating Greater Accra Region 27-25 in the final game to emerge winners with host region Ashanti Region clinching third place and Northern Region finishing a spot behind.
In an interview with Basketballghana.com after the final game, Asiedu detailed bad treatment meted out to players and officials during the competition.
“Monies that are supposed to be paid to officials after leaving their families to Kumasi just to serve their country diligently has not been paid to them, I must say all the sporting disciplines were keenly contested…sad part is that some NSA-National Sports Authority-officials have decided to hijack seats for their colleagues leaving other passengers stranded…shuttling of officiating officials at this year’s NSF has been very poor” he said.
Top performers at the event will be selected to Ghana’s National Team to compete in November’s World Cup qualifiers in South Africa.
