Brong-Ahafo Region has beaten Greater Accra Region 27-25 in the final game in the WheelChair Basketball event at Ghana’s National Sports Festival.
BA recorded the shock result at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Paa Joe Stadium to conclude the games and walk away with the title and gold medals. National Team Captain Botsyo Nkegbe played a starring role in the win.
Heading to the final game, Greater Accra was heavily tipped to win the competition considering the experienced group it presented.
However, BA played as a strong unit to beat the hitherto unbeaten side from Ghana’s capital region; BA won its opening tie by beating Ashanti Region 35-10.
Host Region (Ashanti) claimed third place in the competition ahead of Northern Region to complete the teams on the podium.
Big winners in the preliminary stage, Central Region, missed out on a medal after failing to progress to the knockout phase. The team recorded a a 98-0 win over Upper West.
Standout players will be selected to the West African country’s national team ahead of World Cup Qualifiers in November.
