Recently crowned Women’s African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) Champions Nigeria has moved up in the latest standings released by world governing body FIBA.
The new Nike FIBA Standings have the reigning African Champions 34th on the log moving up eight places from the last rankings released.
The West African nation is one of the biggest risers; the Virgin Islands moved up 15 places to 35th followed by 37th ranked Paraguay who moved 13 places and 35th ranked Colombia who moved up 12 places.
Nigeria won its third continental title recently after beating arch rival Senegal 65-48 in this year’s Championship with Mali placing third.
Record African winners Senegal maintains its spot in 17th place one ahead of Angola who were disappointing in the last tournament.
2017 Host Nation Mali is ranked 24th ahead of Mozambique. The top ranked sides maintain their spots in the latest standings.
United States of America, Spain, France and Australia occupy the top four spots with Canada breaking into the top five places after gaining a point. The US are the reigning World and Olympic Champions.
