Greater Accra Region has beaten Ashanti Region 35-10 in the opening game of the wheelchair basketball competition in this year’s Ghana National Sports Festival.
The multi sport event is taking place in Kumasi where the city’s Baba Yara Stadium and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Paa Joe Park are hosting several sports disciplines.
Ghana’s capital region-Greater Accra- wasted little time putting the home team away with Accra’s national team representatives translate their experience to win the entertaining matchup.
In the next game, Ashanti Region recovered well from the loss to down Brong- Ahafo Rehion.
Outstanding athletes at the competition will be handed call ups to Ghana’s National Wheelchair basketball team ahead of World Cup qualifiers in Durban, South Africa from November 19-26.
The next World Cup will be held in Germany in 2018 and team officials aim to represent Ghana in the competition.
Officials with the team in Kumasi include Media Coordinator Sandy Asiedu, National Team Coach Elvis Alupui and 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards Referee of the Year Gasu Quarmyne.
