Braves of Customs and Tudu Galaxy have won respective ties against Ghana Navy and Fire Service in the latest round of games in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division.
Defending champions Braves easily brushed aside Ghana Navy with a 50-30 win before Galaxy piped Fire Service to a 27-26 victory.
Braves ended the first half with a 36-25 lead after Forward/Center Gloria Gyampoh scored a jump shot from the free throw line. She continued her onslaught with four straight to give Braves a 42-28 lead with 4:41 minutes left to play as Navy’s tough play in the early sections of the game dissipated.
Point Guard Grace Doe delivered well timed passes for Rahinatu Dramani and Berlinda Tawiah to extend the side’s lead.
Coming off a two game winning run, Fire got off to a flying start against Galaxy taking a 4-0 lead but Point Guard Joana Amanel tied the score at 4 midway through the quarter. Fire Forward Theresa Dodoo’s jumper ensured her side ended the first quarter with a 9-6 lead.
Galaxy Center Aishetu Malike’s dominance in the subsequent quarters was a major reason her side took over the game’s lead.
Malike was a force on the defensive end blocking four shots while gobbling rebounds on the offensive end and scoring.
Fire’s do it all Guard Carlyn Adjei did not have the best game but gave her team a 25-24 lead with a late three point shot converted shots from the free throw line from Tudu were enough to hold off Fire’s surge.
