2017 Africa Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) Wild Card entrant Guinea, has been drawn in Group A of the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers.
The World Cup will be held in China and the draw for the qualifiers was held on Sunday May 7 in Guangzhou with 80 countries drawn into four continental categories; African, American, Asian and European.
In the African qualifiers however, West African side Guinea got drawn into Group A with South Africa, Tunisia and Cameroon.
Tunisia placed third at the 2015 AfroBasket and booked a spot at this year’s championship by qualifying first in Zone 1 while Cameroon did same in Zone 4 and possesses one of the deepest rosters in the field with NBA players Joel Embiid, Luc Richard Mbah A Moute and Pascal Siakam in line for a call up.
South Africa on the other hand, failed to make it out first from Zone 6 but booked its spot in the competition thanks to a playoff win over Zimbabwe.
Guinea placed third behind Senegal and Mali but its three wins earned the country a spot. Qualifiers begin November 24.
