Uncertainty still reigns over the host nation of the upcoming Africa Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) as an official host is yet to be named.
The competition is set to be played between August 19 and 30.
With little over four months to go, FIBA Africa has not officially named the host of the 2017 edition of the biannual competition following scandals that have rocked the process.
First, original host Congo Republic, withdrew citing “logistical reasons” recently before Angola was named as a replacement.
After hosting the tournament on three previous occasions, the multiple continental champions looked good to step in quickly and avoid a major disappointment.
However, the country’s upcoming elections which will be held at the time of the games, has forced government officials to cancel the process due to the difficult circumstances that might come up should officials push through it.
Due to the dilemma, the last wild card slot is yet to be awarded; prior to Congo’s withdrawal, Rwanda and Guinea earned slots to compete in the tournament.
