Heavy rains pummeled most parts of Ghana’s capital region Accra threatening fixtures in the Tema Community Basketball League.
The massive downpour affected league venue Tema Community 4 Court with large pools of water on the surface mere minutes prior to the scheduled tipoff 15:30 GMT time.
However, concerted efforts from some players and volunteers ensured the court was dry before Reformers of Prisons opened the round of games against Community 12 albeit delayed.
The situation further highlights the need for a public indoor court in the region. The few available courts in the region and Ghana at large, are privately owned rendering them off limits to public use.
On the court, the young Reformers side showed naivety along the way but managed to eke out a 39-38 win over C12 in the opening game.
Ghana Police beat Community 5 26-16 to complete games in Group A. In Group B, an exciting tie between Community 4 and Community 2 glossed over the disappointment of Adenta Leopards and Bosco Giants no show.
C4 won 48-42 thanks to four straight three points shots from Emmanuel Kwesi Danso.
